Once you’ve submitted your application, you will receive a confirmation email within 24 hours. If you don’t, please check the status of your application in the online portal. Applications will then be reviewed and assessed. It can take up to 16 weeks for applications to be approved, and involves 4 key stages.

The Young Carers Team reviews the information provided in each application.
Applications are passed onto the Independent Assessment Panel for review.
The panel is made up of experts who have experience working with young carers and are not employed by Carers Australia. The panel’s decision is final.
A list of successful candidates will be provided by the panel to the Young Carer Team to shortlist applications and begin the verification process.
The Young Carers Team will contact shortlisted applicants to request supporting documentation and verification of eligibility.
When the requested documents are returned and accepted, the application will be approved.
On average, results are available 16 weeks after applications close.
