What happens after I apply?

Once you’ve submitted your application, you’ll receive a confirmation email within 24 hours. If you don’t, contact the Young Carer Bursary team on 1800 756 238 or email ca@ycbp.com.au. Applications will then be assessed. It can take up to 16 weeks for applications to be approved, and involves 4 key stages.

Stage 1

Applications are collated and evaluated identifying those in greatest need.

Stage 2

The Young Carer Bursary team reviews the information provided in each application.

Stage 3

Shortlisted applicants are passed onto the Independent Assessment Panel for review.

The panel is made up of three experts who have experience working with young carers and are not employed by Carers Australia. The panel’s decision is final.

A list of successful candidates will be provided by the panel to the bursary team to begin verification.

Stage 4

The young carer bursary team will contact successful applicants to request supporting documentation and verification of eligibility.

When the requested documents are returned and accepted, the application will be approved.

When will I be notified if I am shortlisted?

On average, results are available 16 weeks after applications close.

What will I need to provide if I am shortlisted?

Shortlisted applicants need to provide supporting documentation to support their application. This includes proof of:

  • identity,

  • age,

  • enrolment,

  • carer status,

  • bank details,

  • parent consent, and

  • Australian residency or citizenship status.
