Studying from home

Have a routine

Because you are now studying from home, it is even more important to have a routine. You may have to be flexible, but sticking to most of the norms will make it easier for you when schools, TAFE’s and universities reopen.

Get up at your usual time and do what you would normally do before going to school. Take the same recess and lunch breaks, and if possible, get some exercise and talk to friends.

Find a quiet place to study

Study in a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed and can concentrate on what you are doing. For some it may be the kitchen table, for others it may be your bedroom or study area. Make sure you have enough room to spread out and that you are comfortable.

Have you got what you need?

Schools, TAFE’s and universities have now introduced online learning. For those unable to access classes online, printed materials have been arranged. If you have not received the printed materials, please contact your education provider.

Ready to get started?

You’ve kept to a routine, found a place to study and have your materials – great work! The next step is letting everyone in your home know when you are studying so that you are not disturbed. Have some snacks on hand and a bottle of water so you won’t have to get up and leave what you are doing.

Not feeling well

Remember, just like school you will need to let your education provider know when you’re not well and won’t be studying. Unexplained absences are still being recorded.

It’s not for everyone

If you are finding it difficult to learn online or by using the printed materials at home, you are not alone. Many of us learn in different ways. Keep in contact with your teacher and don’t be afraid to ask for help.
