Carers Australia has now contacted everyone via email who applied for the 2026 Young Carer Bursary with an outcome for their application.
The 2026 Young Carer Bursary received almost 5000 applications for 1600 Bursaries. Unfortunately, not everyone who applied could be awarded a bursary. Decisions about applications were made on an assessment of which people who applied were in the greatest need.
Young carers can continue to access free and practical support. For more information, visit YoungCarersNetwork.com.au or CarerGateway.gov.au
This website will be updated in 2026 with information on the dates of the next Young Carer Bursary round.
For more information, please contact Carers Australia on 1800 756 238.
Young Carer Bursary Program provides financial support to young carers in greatest need, making life a bit easier while you balance studying and caring for someone.
In 2026, 1,600 bursaries are available. Each one is worth $4,000.
We carefully review all applications and award bursaries to the young carers who need them the most.
Being a young carer can be tough, especially when you’re trying to juggle your education and caring for someone you love.
Balancing both can sometimes bring financial challenges, making things even harder.
Bursary money is there to help you with your education and caring role.
You could use it for things like:
• Buying a laptop for your schoolwork
• Getting your school uniforms or books
• Paying for transport to get to school or college
• Taking a break from caring
• Joining in with school activities that cost extra
• Paying for some school fees
If you are a young carer and want further information or assistance, please call Carers Australia on 1800 756 238.
